I see more and more people who buy themselves the most expensive car-worth TOP equipment and believe they’re great photographers. Yet, they can’t photograph at all and are not willing to learn.
It reminds me of people who can play the most primitive guitar tunes using one finger, buy a very expensive guitar and still play the same tunes using the same finger. Will it make music better? Of course, not.
Approximately one third of my photo works is done with an ordinary camera Nikon D5100, and some even with a pocket compact camera. Moreover, sometimes I enjoy filming with this camera, and I come up with amazing photos.
A good photo is not measured in megapixels, dynamic range or focus. No! And you understand it perfectly well.
At my workshops, I often recommend photographers to buy a second-hand film camera, a couple of films, and to learn to film from scratch. At the same time, they have to understand the value of every shot.
The goal of an art photographer is to create beauty in the shot, to feel it and give it a skillful implementation. Most of the time, it’s a hard hours-long job. Yet, a photographer actually learns, not just keeps pushing a camera button and hopes to pick out at least one successful shot among hundreds.
